The future of Alexus 2040

After the release of the latest update (paint your own spaceships), what can we expect from Alexus 2040?

Nothing is entirely set in stone, but the plan is to finally get on with the Steam version. For this occasion, a new final boss (the real final boss), which has been hinted in the scrolling text of the current ending on mobile, will be added to the game.

Alexus 2040 was specifically designed for mobile, and as such it wasn’t my plan to ever take it to other platforms, but over time, and with the extra content that was added in the main update (the spaceships and power-ups update), I started to see the appeal of a PC version. I just need to find the time to give the port the attention it deserves.

It has to be said that the game was always a side project for me, but since the release in 2024, it has become even more so (a side project of a side project), so it is understandable that I have worked on the game very infrequently. There is a certain amount of redesign involved in the Steam version when it comes to the interface, which I have to admit I have been putting off for some time.

That being said, I also have a fair amount of motivation to make it the definitive version of the game (dare I say ‘deluxe’), but more about it later.

The final boss will also make it to mobile as an update (it may be released after the Steam version, but it is too early to decide).

So it looks likely that the Steam version along with final boss update will put an end the story of Alexus 2040, and that I will be moving to something new afterwards.

And since I was not going to end it without showing something from the game, even though it is completely unrelatedly, here is a laser power-up used in conjonction with the double fire power-up (which makes two lasers). It is possible (although rare) to have the rapid fire power-up added to the equation.
